The Catalogue of Refereed Scholarly Journals 2010-2011 is the compilation in one sole piece of work on the set of data sheets pertaining to periodical publications destined to share the outcomes of research in all scientific and scholarly areas. As spaces for a periodical encounter for researchers, these journals are a vital medium for the renewal of science.
By means of a careful classification and ordering of the material, the Catalogue of Refereed Scholarly Journals 2010-2011 renders the possibility to identify the variety of publications compounding the acervus of scholarly journals being published today by the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Additionally, this Catalogue enables us to penetrate the bridges and communicating vessels, which the journals are able to establish across the diverse disciplines and in relationship to the development of science in diverse cultural contexts. Researchers and professors from diverse countries, generations and intellectual preferences are present in the editorial committees.
The person or set of persons in charge for each of the 108 publications registered in this Catalogue was responsible for the information rendered therein. Each entry therefore offers concrete data regarding the specific journal, such as image, price, size, registry, profile and public to which it is destined. Simultaneously, we find a description guiding us through the history, achievements, awards and transformations of each journal. In view of the above mentioned, the Catalogue is a means to illustrate the fact that the production of science is not an activity restricted to one or a few disciplines but rather the compound of rigorous questioning by multiple minds who are willing to translate their research into scientific or scholarly articles. It is important to mention that each published article in these journals went through a prior revision by peers, in order to certify its originality.
The Catalogue of Refereed Scholarly Journals 2010-2011 is destined to become a product for immediate consulting by students, researchers, professionals and anyone interested in knowing which are the spaces from which scholarly results are editorially articulated by the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). The Catalogue is available in printed, electronic and virtual formats. Due to its versatility and importance, the Catalogue serves to foster interest in discovering how curiosity, rigorous work and the capacity for innovation constitute essential features for the production of knowledge.
The General Secretariat of the UNAM proudly looks at this first issue of the Catalogue, which comes to light framed by the Centennial of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
We hope that in the years to come this publication will not only serve to reinforce the existing journals but to see new ones arise with increased strength as they will learn from those that have successfully gone the way.
