Profile and Contents

Biblioteca Universitaria is the body that reports on the activities of the University Library, so it is consi-dered an area of academic outreach. Articles being published therein are previously evaluated and refereed by an interdisciplinary academic team, ensuring quality to each publication. Fixed sections give an account of the library system of the UNAM, as well as recent information regarding library systems of other national and international institutions of higher education and research.

Target Public

Information professionals: librarians, library managers, documentalists, engineers and system engineers as well as teachers, researchers and students interested in the issues rose therein.

History
Biblioteca Universitaria, published in 1986 for the first time, is a semiannual serial publication. The academic staff of the Dirección General de Bibliotecas (General Directorate for Libraries, UNAM) detected the need for a means of information.
With this idea in mind, Adolfo Rodríguez Gallardo, then director of this university unit, prompted the publication aiming to strengthen communication among the University library system to have a well-informed library staff. The publication was initially conceived as a newsletter, but since 1990, it adopted the journal format. Its vocation has been informing and communicating events, issues, projects, news, initiatives, proposals and situations in general pertaining to the sphere of information and the librarian world. Collaborations are the product of the academic staff of the General Directorate for Libraries and the library system of the UNAM. Academics and information professionals from other institutions collaborate as well..

Editorial Board

All committee members work at the UNAM (Mexico): Adolfo Rodríguez Gallardo (president) and Miguel Zorrilla Abascal (secretary). Other members: José Luis Almanza, Minerva del Ángel Santillán, Carlos García López, Margarita Lugo Hubp, Julieta Margáin de Ochoa, Gonzalo Reséndiz Cansino, Eugenio Romero Hernández and Julio Zetter Leal.

Achievements and Awards

In 1992, Biblioteca Universitaria gained its ISSN registry and integrated in its editing process a production cost recovery scheme to allow for some paid advertisements, without distorting its academic character. The full text in digital format is available starting with the fourth volume, published in 1989.
