Profile and Contents

Biocyt is a virtual scientific journal in Spanish, which is dedicated to spreading scientific work generated inside and outside the Facultad de Estudios Superiores Iztacala. The publication addresses issues related to disciplines closely linked to biology and environmental sciences, mainly zoology and botanical studies.

Target Public

The intended audience includes the international scientific community, primarily biologists and people with knowledge of the above mentioned disciplines.

History
Professors of both, the Department of Ecology and the Department of Management of Natural Resources pertaining to the Facultad de Estudios Superiores Iztacala (Multidisciplinary School for Higher Studies Iztacala, UNAM) arrived at the conclusion that it was essential to have a webat journal. It was conceived by Jonathan Franco Lopez, Horacio López Vázquez and Sergio Cházaro Olvera. Aware that information is nowadays moving rapidly, the idea was that the journal should quickly disseminate the results of research carried out within the Faculty.
As happens with most brands, a product is unveiled to the public for consideration, and the public reacts; thus the journal became known and comments started to flow: some good and some bad, which served to modify its contents, so that nowadays all the comments regarding the journal are good. We believe that Biocyt has been growing because manuscripts for review arrive constantly, meaning that the scientific community and and interested readers increasingly view the page.

Achievements and Awards

Biocyt is a relatively new jounal (2008) but is already indexed in Latindex. On the other hand, being a quarterly, it has so far been publishing the accepted articles accordingly.
